Experts are blaming ‘chronic underfunding’ of the NHS after new figures have revealed how many GP practices in Devon have closed and merged within the last 18 months.

Between July 1, 2016, and December 31, 2017, there were 12 mergers across North, Eastern and Western (NEW) Devon, and South Devon & Torbay, and during the same period three small practices in Plymouth closed.

Separate data shows the number of patients registered with a GP in Devon grew by 15,413 to a total of 1.2m at the end of the year.
