Nearly 3,000 patients were left waiting in an ambulance outside A&Es in Surrey for more than half an hour during the final six weeks of 2017.

New data revealed in the NHS’s annual winter monitoring report shows that 2,808 patients were left in ambulances for more than 30 minutes after arriving at A&E.

The figures, which cover the period from Monday, November 21 to Sunday, December 31, also show that 585 were left waiting more than an hour.

The same report shows that most of the county’s hospitals including East Surrey Hospital in Earlswood and Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford had dangerously high bed occupancy rates over the same timeframe.
