Fears over ‘long-term downgrading’ of Bassetlaw Hospital as reviews begin

Campaigners have raised concerns that there will be a “long term downgrading” of services at Bassetlaw Hospital after it emerged that the Special Care Baby Unit and maternity services at the hospital are under review.

But the trust has strongly denied the claims, saying there are “no plans to close any services” at the hospital and the reviews are part of a regional Accountable Care System review into how hospitals and trusts can “work together to meet challenges”.

It comes after it was announced last week that Bassetlaw Hospital’s children’s ward is to remain closed overnight because of a nationwide shortage of nurses. Now campaigners have raised further concerns.
