Demonstrators gathered to protest against health cuts in Liverpool today.
Around 100 people joined the rally outside the Cunard building which was organised by the GMB trade union. Representatives from HCT Trade Union, the Trade Union Council and the Merseyside Pensioners Association also attended the protest, along with Liverpool Against the Cuts and Old Swan Against the Cuts.
Protesters were rallying against the Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) for Cheshire and Merseyside which was published last month and, according to those behind it, sets out how the health and care system can remain fit for the future. The protesters say the proposals are a way of privatising the NHS. The GMB warned the government would be making £900m of cuts to Merseyside and Cheshire NHS services in the coming years.
