Health chiefs say limiting access to fertility treatments in Bath and North East Somerset was ‘the most difficult decision’ they have ever had to make.

Dr Ian Orpen said the area’s clinical commissioning group (CCG) had listened to feedback and scrapped its plans to stop funding most vasectomies and female sterilisations as it could discriminate against women.

But – with the NHS body facing ‘unprecedented’ financial challenges – it is limiting IVF to women aged between 23 and 37 years of age, down from 40, and with a BMI between 19 and 30.
