Major London trust to take over ‘dilapidated’ Mount Vernon Cancer Centre

University College London Hospitals Foundation Trust has been chosen as the preferred provider to take over East and North Hertfordshire Trust’s Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in north west London from April 2021. The centre was found to be “dilapidated” and understaffed by an independent review by NHS England specialist commissioners (NHSE), published in July last year. The NHSE review also recommended that the centre be rebuilt entirely beside an acute hospital, with some services retained locally. So despite the potential takeover, the specialist cancer hospital’s future remains undecided.
