Front-line staff dealing with COVID-19 deserve an extra £29 a day, say MPs

Nursing Notes reports that the Liberal Democrats have suggested that NHS and social care workers on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic should be paid an extra £29 per day, as part of a new comprehensive support package.

The package has been designed in consultation with health and care worker representatives and will help the workers in the home as well as in the workplace.

Acting Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey said NHS and care staff were “risking their lives to protect others” in what was a “national struggle” against the coronavirus. The £29-a-day “front line service reward” is similar to the deployment allowance paid to troops.
