New data has revealed that a hospital in Essex cancelled one in seven appointments last year – nearly a third more than a decade ago.
Southend University Hospital cancelled 96,177 outpatient appointments in 2016, 15 per cent of all appointments.
This was the highest proportion cancelled by the hospital since figures began in 2006 to 2007.
In 2006 to 2007, the trust cancelled 67,516 outpatient appointments, 11.7 per cent or one in nine, suggesting hospital cancellations are rising at a faster pace than the overall rise in appointments.
