A merger between University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and its neighbour Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust is to go ahead next month, it has been announced.
The former runs the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and the latter manages Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals.
The merger by acquisition of Birmingham’s two largest hospital trusts is to go ahead on 1 April, after it was given the green light from the trusts’ respective boards and cleared by both sets of governors.
The enlarged organisation will employ more than 20,000 members of staff and use the name University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB).
All individual hospital and clinic names will remain the same, including the Birmingham Chest Clinic.
