Plans are afoot to transfer the management of health services from the NHS to Cornwall Council in a bid to turn the county’s hospitals’ fortunes round.
The proposal to see the local authority put in charge of health budgets in the county was suggested by NHS England in the aftermath of a damning report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) watchdog which recommended that the Royal Cornwall Hospital is put into special measures over a catalogue of failings.
