More midwives still need to be recruited before one of the most luxurious and specialist birthing centres in Bristol can reopen.
Health bosses originally said they hoped Cossham birth centre would be fully opened by the end of February.
However, with little more than a month until the deadline, the hospital trust has reported more midwives still need to be hired. They are now saying by the end of January they will have ‘a better idea’ of when the ‘cherished unit’ would reopen.
So far, 18 of the 24 roles have been filled. However most of these midwives are newly-qualified so will be starting their work inductions.
