A major nursing shortage will mean that the City Community Hospital in Oxford will close temporarily at the end of May.
By the end of May, two-thirds of nursing posts at the hospital will be vacant and as a result Oxford Health Foundation Trust has decided to close the hospital on the grounds of patient safety.
The trust’s 12-bed unit within the Fulbrook Centre at the Churchill Hospital site in Oxford will remain closed until at least September, then staffing and bed provision will be reviewed. The patients in the unit will be individually assessed, but it is predicted that four will return home, and the rest will transfer to community hospitals in Abington and Whitney.
