Teignmouth’s former MP has slammed plans to close the first purpose build NHS Hospital in the UK as part of a bid to create a new health centre in the town.
The purpose-built site could see Teignmouth’s three GP practices– Channel View, Teign Estuary and Teignmouth Medical Practice – co-located with the multi-disciplinary health and wellbeing team, voluntary sector partners, and some outpatient clinics, but would see the closure of the current Teignmouth Hospital in Mill Lane.
But Richard Younger-Ross, who was the Liberal Democrat MP for Teignbridge between 2001 and 2010, has called for the hospital to stay open as it would provide a much needed local health care service and is an important historic milestone in the development of the NHS.
